Lucille
Lucille, known to Elliot Landry as Ms. Lucille, managed J&R Foods, where Elliot and his mother, Jazmine Landry, worked during Elliot’s teens.
Employment and Relationship with the Landrys
Lucille knew the Landry family through their work at the grocery store. Jazmine worked in produce, and Elliot worked after school and on weekends stocking shelves, moving shipping carts, and helping wherever the crew needed him. Lucille taught him the store’s inventory organization and efficient stacking systems. She recognized both his accuracy and the physical effort he gave the work, particularly on nights when he had pushed himself past exhaustion. Decades later, Lucille still remembered his teenage work at the store.
The store’s bakery and deli became one of the practical ways Lucille cared for the Landrys. She sometimes made sure Elliot had food during a late shift. When she praised his work and gave him an extra cookie from the bakery, she told him, “You did good work today, son.”
When Jazmine worried that Elliot’s bed was worsening his pain, Lucille recommended a furniture-assistance nonprofit. After the family obtained a larger bed, Lucille and the store crew pooled money for a queen-size sheet set, pillows, and a king-size comforter.
During the 2019 emergency involving Elliot’s broken wrist, Lucille enabled Jazmine to leave work immediately after learning that Elliot was injured. The available sources do not establish whether nurse Carleen or Elliot initiated the call to J&R Foods.
Lucille and Jazmine remained in contact decades later during Elliot’s final cancer treatment. Lucille continued to remember his teenage work at the store and remained protective when his biological father, Vernon, contacted Jazmine after learning that Elliot was ill.
Personality
Lucille was direct, practical, affectionate, and protective of the people who worked with her. Her support for the Landrys took concrete forms, including schedule flexibility, resource referrals, material help, and continued contact after they no longer worked together.
